On February 21, Hamburg hosted the Northern German Sambo Championship among Children, one of the key regional competitions that annually demonstrates the growing popularity and level of training of young SAMBO wrestlers.
The tournament was held in sports sambo and brought together participants in five age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-15 years old. Sets of medals were awarded in more than twenty weight categories, which allowed each age and level of training to prove themselves on the mat.
Sambo development in the region
In recent years, Northern Germany has shown a steady increase in interest in SAMBO. The number of children in the sections is increasing, and the clubs are actively developing coaching programs, introducing modern training methods and expanding participation in international tournaments.
The organizers note that competitions of this level are becoming an important part of the region’s sports ecosystem: they allow young athletes to gain competitive experience, and coaches to monitor the dynamics of development and adjust the training process.
Prospects and young talents
Several athletes, whom the coaches are already calling promising, showed themselves vividly on the carpet in Hamburg. Among them are representatives of the clubs of Hamburg, Berlin, Hanover and Heidenau, demonstrating confident technique, tactical thinking and athletic character.
The guys of the older age groups stood out especially, where the fight for medals was held at a high pace and with serious competition. According to experts, these athletes may form the basis of national teams at federal and international championships in the coming years.

The 1st place was taken by the team from Berlin “Sambo Combat Cobra e.V.”
The 2nd place was also taken by the Berlin team “Sambo Combat Gryphon e.V.”
The 3rd place was taken by the club of the organizer of the tournament “BKSV von 1959 e.V.”
This result highlights the high level of preparation of the Berlin SAMBO schools and the successful work of the host club, which not only organized the tournament, but also managed to win a place on the podium.
