On February 14-15, Minsk hosted the 30th International Sambo Tournament for the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus, one of the most stable and prestigious events on the calendar, which took place for the 30th time this year.

Representatives from eight countries took part in the competition: Russia, Armenia, Germany, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Belarus. However, it was the European teams that largely determined the course of the competition and the distribution of awards.

The Belarusian team put in a strong performance, winning 13 gold medals and taking first place in terms of the number of top awards. The Russian team came second in the overall team standings with eight gold medals. Athletes from Germany, Armenia, and Israel also took part in the tournament, confirming the high level of the European sambo school and the expanding geography of the continent’s representation.

The anniversary tournament in Minsk once again confirmed the importance of the competition as a platform for rivalry between leading European teams, exchange of experience, and assessment of the current level of preparation ahead of key events of the season.

Traditionally, after the competition, the delegations begin a joint training camp at the Staiki sports complex. Working together at the base helps to strengthen professional ties between national federations and further develop sambo in the European region.
