Sambo in Rome! A master class was held in Rome

January 23

A Sambo master class was held in Rome, organized specifically for students of the Roger Gracie Roma Sports Club. The main topic of the master class was ground fighting—a form of wrestling in which the Sambo school traditionally holds a leading position world wide. Given the specific nature of the club, which specializes in various forms of wrestling, the integration of Sambo techniques sparked keen interest among the participants.

The seminar was led by Azat Andryan (Republic of Armenia). The program was highly practical, focusing on:

• Painful holds on the legs and arms: the nuances of grips, angles of attack, and levers that allow for a quick submission were discussed in detail.

• Holds and positional dominance: participants learned techniques for firmly pinning an opponent and methods for neutralizing their attempts to escape.

Athletes from the Roger Gracie Roma club had the opportunity not only to practice technique but also to understand the psychology of ground fighting from a Sambo perspective.

Developing International Cooperation.

Holding such events in the Italian Republic highlights the growing interest in Sambo as a versatile and effective martial art. Collaboration with clubs promotes Sambo among practitioners of other martial arts and strengthens sporting ties between countries. Master class participants noted the invaluable knowledge they gained, emphasizing that the “Sambo” approach to ground fighting opens new horizons.
