This past weekend, December 20th and 21st, the picturesque town of Cinisello Balsamo, near Milan, hosted the 2nd International Sambo Tournament. Organized by the local club, Isao Okano Club 97, the competition brought together leading athletes from six countries and culminated in a confident victory for the Italian team in the overall team competition.
The tournament, which significantly raised its level and international profile compared to the previous year, attracted sambists from Bulgaria, Germany, Great Britain, France, and Lithuania, who joined the best Italian athletes.
Among the star competitors who graced the tournament were world and European champions. The local team, Isao Okano Club 97, was represented by world and European champion Katerina Moskalova. Bulgaria was ably represented by World Champion Ivan Kharkov and reigning European Champion Tanya Radulova, both top-ranked in their weight classes. Their participation made the bouts particularly exciting and tense.
The success of the event was made possible by the significant support of local authorities and impeccable organization. Special thanks were extended to Mayor Giacomo Ghilardi and Sports Councilor Riccardo Malavolta for providing the welcoming and functional Pala Allende Sports Complex. Diego Brambille, President of Club Isao Okano 97, was recognized for his impeccable management of the organizing committee.
Following two days of intense competition, Team Italy took first place in the overall team standings. Team Bulgaria placed second, and Team France third. The tournament in Cinisello Balsamo once again confirmed its status as a significant event on the international Sambo calendar, demonstrating a high level of skill, sportsmanship, and excellent organization.
