World Combat Games to start in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia hosts representatives of 16 martial arts from all over the planet. The World Martial Arts Games is a multi-sport competition. The tournament began its history in 2010 in Beijing. The second Games were held in 2013 in St. Petersburg. After a long break caused by internal restructuring and pandemic, the World Martial Arts Games will be held in Riyadh.


On September 20, the opening ceremony of the Games will be held, and sambo wrestlers from more than 20 countries will take to the mats. A total of 8500 athletes from 80 countries will take part in the Games.


Sambo medals will be played in sport and combat sambo among men and women, but the weight categories have changed, instead of 7 in each discipline there are much less:


Sport Sambo (men): 71 kg, 88 kg, +88 kg


Sport Sambo (women): 50 kg, 59 kg, 72 kg


Combat Sambo (men): 64 kg, 79 kg, 98 kg


Combat Sambo (women): 65 kg


Sambo of the blind and visually impaired (class SVI-1, total blind): 79 kg
