With the onset of October, the preparations for the Sambo World Championship have entered an active phase. Currently, the Sambo Federation of Armenia is working on the decoration of the main Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, which will host the main tournament of the FIAS calendar. World-class Armenian film director, winner of numerous international awards Hrach Keshishyan is working on the script of the opening ceremony, which will be held on the first day of the tournament — November 10.
Public awareness of the upcoming sporting event is also in full swing. In addition to World Championship advertisements on Armenian TV, which began airing on October 1, and billboards on the streets of the capital, the Republic is hosting numerous sambo demonstrations to attract the attention of the residents to the main tournament of the FIAS calendar year.
“This year Yerevan is hosting the World Sambo Championship, it is a great honor and responsibility for us. The main Sports and Concert Complex of the country will gather not only the best sambo wrestlers from all over the world, but also numerous Olympic champions of Armenia in various sports. Honored sambo veterans and titled sambo wrestlers who have finished their sports careers will also honor this sporting event,” noted Mikayel Hayrapetyan, President of the Sambo Federation of Armenia.
Sambo wrestlers from more than 70 countries are expected to participate in the competition.
