Sambo Championship among Russian and Armenian servicemen held in Yerevan

YEREVAN, Feb. 14 —Sputnik. The servicemen of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District, stationed in Armenia, took part in the Sambo Championship dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, reported the press service of the Southern Military District.

The competition began with a minute of silence in memory of the fallen internationalist warriors.

About 50 servicemen from power structures of the Gyumri and Yerevan military garrisons and invited guests from military personnel and veterans-Afghans took part in the competitions, which were held on the basis of the sports complex of the Armenian Defense Ministry in Yerevan.

Sambo competitions were held in seven weight categories from 63 kg to over 95 kg. The participants demonstrated a high level of training, team spirit and the will to win.

According to the results of the championship, veterans awarded troopers, medals and diplomas to servicemen, who won prizes in the team and individual competitions.
