The Sambo World Cup starts this Thursday

From March 25 to March 26, 2021, the Sambo World Cup “A. Kharlampiev Memorial” will be held in Moscow. The venue for the competition will traditionally be the Small Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Stadium (Luzhnetskaya nab., 24, bld. 3).

It should be noted that this year the World Cup will differ not only in that the participating countries will be able to present two teams at the competition, but also in that the competition will be held for the first time in new international weight categories.

According to preliminary data, about 300 athletes from national sambo federations will take part in the event as part of delegations from 21 countries of the world: Belarus, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Cyprus, Morocco, Mali, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Romania, Serbia, USA, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Philippines, Croatia, Switzerland.

During two days of competition, 21 sets of medals will be played in the following weight categories: 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg (men); 50 kg, 59 kg, 54 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg (women); 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg (combat sambo).

History reference:

World Cup “Memorial to A.A. Kharlampiev” is named after one of the founders of sambo — Anatoly Kharlampiev. The competition was established in the year of the Olympic Games in Moscow — in 1980. Since 1983, athletes have been awarded the title of international master of sports for winning the World Cup.
