Sergey Eliseev: Belarus has tremendous Sambo development traditions

A press conference dedicated to Sambo was held at the main press center of the Games on June 22, on the first day of the sambo tournament in the program of the II European Games. The event was attended by President of the International Sambo Federation Vasily Shestakov, President of the European Sambo Federation Sergey Eliseev, FIAS Secretary General Roberto Ferraris and Chairman of the Belarusian Sambo Federation Alexander Kobrusev.

Belarus has tremendous traditions of sambo development, said president of the European and All-Russian Sambo Federations, Sergei Eliseev, at a press conference in Minsk, according to BELTA.

"Belarus is a leader for us, it is always in the top three and always among the prize-winners. There are colossal traditions of sambo development, it was founded in the Soviet times, and I see that these traditions have been actively developing. This is evident from the results of today’s competitions, “said Sergey Eliseev.

The chairman of the Belarusian Sambo Federation, Alexander Kobrusev, believes that Belarus has a worthy place in the world ranking and makes a huge contribution to the development of this sport in the world and Europe. And these competitions, which have been staging here at the II European Games, are a big step to popularize Sambo.

The President of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), Vasily Shestakov, lighlighted the good organization of games in the Belarusian capital. “Minsk is a unique city, major competitions have been held here several times, which have always been a great success,” he said.

During the II European Games, special attention was drawn to sambo in the first days. Sambo Medals are played on June 22 and 23 at the Sports Palace.
