The open sambo championship of Belarus for the prizes of the President finished today in the Palace of Sports. Over 200 athletes fought for the medals.
The Belarusian team won 13 gold medals. Totally 21 Belarusians sambo athletes took 27 medals! This is the first place in the overall medal standings.
More than 30 countries took part in the tournament during 22 years. This year the sambo athletes from Mongolia and the Netherlands joined these competitions. There were 19 athletes in the Belarusian national team. It is worth highlighting the magnificent results of many winners: Yuri Rybak, Vae Tutkhalyan, Anastasia Arkhipova and Leyla Abbasova. As for the medalists in the combat sambo: Yevgeny Aleksievich and Alexander Gorbaty won the gold in the combat sambo competitions.
The Belarusian Open Sambo Championship for the prizes of the President of Belarus has become a good strength test for the athletes. This competition is one of the stages of selection for the II European Games, which will be held in Minsk in June 2019.
